I am going to present you something I have planned for a while now.

With the new duel-system of Interlude Lineage 2 has made a great step towards a ladder-system.
One could argue that MMORPG's are not designed for ladders and rankings, but with strict rules I see a possible way.

Your opinion is needed to make this ladder system fair and rewarding.
Also feel free to share your concerns about a ladder system.

Here we go:

1on1 Ladder Rules:

Challenger:
- Auto-Challenger: You will be able to define a time for your matchs, the auto-challenger will search for other players with the same settings and create a match
- You have to accept 1on1 auto-challenges
- An IRC channel will be there to simplify challenging

General Rules:
- The same rules as the olympiad, but it’s not allowed to use weapons to buff yourself ( this causes unfair advantages for rich people ) . Another exception is that people can choose between haste2 and acumen2.
- Suclasses may participate

LvL Gap:
- LvL Gap can’t be higher than 4 LvL’s
A) Example: fight between a 76 MS and a LvL 80 MS is possible

- There might be a low level ladder for characters below 61

Points:
- You can win 8 points/match at max:

If your enemy is higher than yourself:
a) Win: You win 5 points for a LvL Gap of 1 LvL
Loss: You loose 5 points for a LvL Gap of 1 LvL

b) Win: You win 6 points for a LvL Gap of 2 LvL
Loss: You loose 4 points for a LvL Gap of 2 LvL

c) Win: You win 7 points for a LvL Gap of 3 LvL
Loss: You loose 3 points for a LvL Gap of 3 LvL

d) Win: You win 8 points for a LvL Gap of 4 LvL
Loss: You loose 2 points for a LvL Gap of 4 LvL

If your enemy is the same LvL:
e) Win: You win 5 points
Loss: You loose 5 points

If your enemy is lower than yourself:
f) Win: You win 5 points for a LvL Gap of 1-4 LvL
Loss: You loose 5 points for a LvL Gap of 1-4 LvL

Character requirements:
- Only characters in the level range of LvL 61 - 80 may participate (to avoid cheating with alts)

Rounds:
- 2 rounds are being played, if there is a draw a last and final round will be played to determine the winner

Location:
- The location of a 1on1 is up to you, if both sides can’t agree on one location there will be a dice thrown to determine who will decide where to go
a) you have to repeat a round if there is a mob or a player attacking one of the two players
b) wilfull kiting into an area of mobs will result in a default win for the other side
c) you should make borders with adena to simplify kiting

Items:
- During a 1on1 match, no items other than soulshots, spiritshots, Echo Crystals, energy stones, and firecrackers are allowed. Everything else will result in 10 point penalty

Skills:
- Recall and Party Recall abilities may not be used!
- Hero skills and clan skills are not allowed to be used in a match
- Soul of the Phoenix may not be used

Match start:
- The matchcountdown begins when both sides are buffed, setup the title “Ready” or agreed on starting in shout (allowed for untagged players only!)
- The distance of 2 players has to be at least 1 mini map size (pic)

Match replays / screenshots:
- Certain requests can be made after the match: 1 replay of the match ; 3 screenshots of the end of each round with a stat window opend to ensure that there are no disallowed buffs (missing data will result in a default win and 10 penalty points)

Unfair behaviour:
- Using Pots will result in a penalty (15 Points) and a default win for the other side
- If a character abnormally leaves the game, he will lose the current round.

Server problems:
- If the server goes down while a competition is in progress, the competition will be nullified and the competitors will redo the current round

Stakes and Spectators:
- Stakes are possible for the players as well as any spectator
- Spectators are not allowed to cross a border of adena
- Spectators may not disturb the match

Heroes:
- Heroes are allowed to participate but using hero skills will result in a default win for the other side and a penalty (10 points)

Weapons:
- The gap of enchanted weapons may not be higher than 4 enchants to avoid “ebayed” wins
- Hero Weapons may not be used

Territory:
- If both sides agreed on a territory with objects (trees, rocks, etc), the territory may be
used for your advantage

Demonic Weapons:
- Wielders of demonic weapons are not allowed to participate

Listings:
- Matchs with extravagant locations or high-lvl gaps will be highlighted on the ladder page.

RPS:

- The 1on1 ladder is a class competition only because healers and buffer can obviously not deal damage and there is no timelimit like in the olympiad. Solution: A script to take a screenshot right after 4 minutes to determine who has more HP, but this will not be accurate and will help cheaters.

Here is the most complicated part and I need your help to make fair competition groups:

- competition groups:
a) Archers Moonlight Sentinel, Saggitarius, Ghost Sentinel
b) Tanks Hell Knight, Evas Templar, Shillien Templar, Phoenix Knight
c) Damage Dealers Duelist; Dreadnought; Grand Khavatari; Titan; Fortune Seeker; Maestro, Spectral Dancer, Sword Muse
d) Daggers Adventurer, Ghostrider, Plainswalker
e) Healers + Buffers Eva Saint; Shillien Saint; Cardinal; Hierophant
f) Summoners Elemental Master; Spectral Master; Arcana Lord
g) Nuker Storm Screamer; Mystic Muse; Archmage, Necromancer, Dominator; Doomcryer
h) ((Spectral Dancer)) Sword Muse can choose a 2nd buff of their choice to make it a even fight ?

Other Ladders:

- The 2on2, 3on3, 5on5 and Group vs Group Ladder will be a mixed competition
- No Class specific competition: SwS + SK vs WC+BD = allowed
- You have to calculate the average level of your group
a) Example: LvL76 and LvL 69 = [(69+76=146) / 2] = 72,5
b) Round up if it’s exactly 0,5 or higher
c) Round down if it’s below 0,5
d) Means our example group would be an average of 73
- The LvL Gap may not be higher than 10 (excluding 10)
- Same Rules as above (1on1 ladder) will apply, but there are only two rounds, players may use every overenchanted weapon.

- You can win 8 points/match at max:
e) 5 points for a LvL Gap between 0 and 3
f) 6 points for a LvL Gap between 3 and 6
g) 7 points for a LvL Gap between 6 and 9
h) 8 points for a LvL Gap between 9 and 10

================================================== ======

I have already started the project and I want to show some results:

http://l2warfare.com/images/ladder/Match.jpg
Here you can pick an enemy of the player databse.

http://l2warfare.com/images/ladder/MatchDetails.jpg
Match Details - There is an Ajax Shoutbox to discuss the match and you can also post your screenshots and
youtube movies there. I will also integrate an upload for replay's and screenshots so that players can upload data right here.
Both sides have to send a confirmation before it will be moved to another database of confirmed matchs.

http://l2warfare.com/images/ladder/ajax-shoutbox.jpg
Closer look at the Shoutbox, was a lot of javascript coding for me to integrate the bbcode into the shoutbox.
Ajax means that the page does not have to reload to show a comment (You should know this from youtube comments etc), but it's still very slow and I'm trying to fix that.

I have also prepared an overview of matchs, confirmed matchs and "my matchs" (screen coming, too lazy to upload it now)

================================================== ======

Anyway the biggest problem so far is to make even and fair competition groups and I need your opinions for that.

Reasonable rules will be added.

The alpha version will be available soon (version 0.3) , I plan to release a stable version end of april after Interlude has been live for a while.

Great Idea's War.. but there will need to be some sort of "referee's to make sure that all rules are abided by. Even though it is not something I would ever participate actively in ( v- see below). But if I can help in finding flaws in the design I will do so. After a quick read it looks pretty tight though. I will take another long look at it this weekend to see if I notice any problems.

Now personaly the whole duel thing is not my cup of tea, which is why I never go to arena's unless it is to clear some raid boss bad effect on my character (silence, etc.). And also why I feel the whole Hero thing is "not fun" and do not ever plan to particapate in those. But thats just my personal subjective opinion. I much prefer open field or siege field PVP to dueling or arena's <shrugs>. The chaos of lots of folks going at it all at once in interesting terrain is where I find the fun.

Well I understand your point and I agree it's definetly fun to have mass PvP with lots of people involved, but there are a lot of
people who like 1on1's and 9v9's
I quoted some rules to show that small "mass" pvp (18people) would also be possible.. The location can be choosen randomly, although it shouldn't be an area with many mobs.
Maybe I should edit this rule and define certain spots with enough room for a fight.

Anyway I think only a 1on1 and 9v9 ladder is realizable, anything else isn't so popular in L2.

Good point.. anything larger and most will go to a siege instead. And with the new Fortresses comming to be in Interlude, there will likely be a lot more of that smaller clan vs clan action going on as opposed to large alliances going at it in sieges. So yeah.. I would limit your Ladder to 1 vs 1 and 9 vs 9 for now.
